Beach Wheelchairs service to resume for Easter

Updated: Jun 24, 2021

We are delighted to confirm that Fleetwood's Beach Wheelchair service will resume at the end of the month and be open for the Easter weekend!

As more outdoor activities are permitted with the easing of lockdown, chairs will be available from 29th March, providing access to the beach and shoreline to individuals with limited mobility.

All inquiries and bookings should be made in advance by telephoning 03000 111 003.

Chairs can be booked for times between 10am and 4pm on dates from Monday 29th March until further notice and will be confirmed subject to availability of volunteers and any changes to the COVID guidelines.

Additionally, for the Bank Holiday weekend Good Friday to Easter Monday, 10am to 4pm daily, volunteers will be available to provide chairs to visitors at 'The Wheel Base', on the promenade close to Marine Hall and opposite the Mount and Boston Hotels.

All hires are free of charge with donations to our registered charity welcome.

Michael Gray, chair of trustees said, “The restrictions were absolutely the right thing to do but we know so many people have missed out on the opportunity to spend time on the beach with their family and friends during recent months. Being able to access the beach and enjoy outdoor activity is a great support to physical and mental health, even more so now. This week we took delivery of our seventh chair, a Sandpiper ideally suited for children. With the support of our sponsors and funders Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs now have chairs to suit a range of ages and levels of mobility. We will have a robust COVID protocol in place and also urge anyone coming to Fleetwood to observe all the guidelines for travel, social-distancing and hygiene."

Michael added "All our volunteers are looking forward to safely welcoming back visitors and helping them to make some wonderful, happy memories.”
